The upcoming table read will also involve Sean Penn, the original star of the classic movie, and the event will be broadcast live online to raise funds for charity.

Jennifer Aniston, Julia Roberts, Matthew McConaughey, and Morgan Freeman are set to headline a reading of “Fast Times at Ridgemont High“.

The all-star cast will revisit the 1982 classic for a one night only event on 20 August (20) while Henry Golding, Shia LaBeouf, and Sean Penn, who appeared in the film, will also take on roles for the event, which will include an unrehearsed table read.

Presented by comedian Dane Cook, the virtual gathering will also feature introductions from the film’s screenwriter Cameron Crowe and director Amy Heckerling.

“I’m always game for a giggle,” Penn said in a statement. “So, to gather remotely for a night of laughs with so many talented folks while providing CORE with much-needed resources to continue our vital work, then consider us fully on board to play!”

The event will raise funds for both the Penn co-founded emergency relief nonprofit CORE and the REFORM Alliance.

The “Fast Times at Ridgemont High” table read will livestream on 20 August at 9pm ET on the CORE Response Facebook account.

Frida Giannini has criticised the fashion industry for focusing on popularity.

The former Gucci creative director took part in a panel at the Milan Fashion Global Summit this week, and she didn’t hold back as she took aim at how some brands in the industry have become focused on how many social media followers a fashion designer has over their suitability for a role.

Frida – who was at fashion house Gucci between 2006 and 2014 – is quoted by as saying: “I feel a bit disoriented.

“There are conversations going on about a new designer to choose for a brand based on the number of followers that this person has on social media.

“If you are selected because of your followers, the music you listen to or the people you have seated front-row, I don’t really know what to tell you, but I wonder how long you are going to last in that position?”

The 48-year-old Italian fashion designer is also not a fan of how some big labels overemphasise their logos on pieces.

She said: “When your customers have bought your T-shirts, your sneakers, your duffel bag, what else can they buy?”

“When I was at Gucci I was using the logo in a very discreet way, matching it with precious skin, they were telling me I was too commercial. And now, there is this overexposure of logos.”

Mads Mikkelsen | Mads Mikkelsen confirmed for Fantastic Beasts role

Mads Mikkelsen has been confirmed for the role of Gellert Grindelwald in the ‘Fantastic Beasts’ franchise, following Johnny Depp’s exit.

The 54-year-old actor was recently reported to be the frontrunner to replace Johnny after he exited the franchise earlier this month, and on Wednesday (25.11.20) Warner Bros. officially confirmed Mads will take on the role.

Mads will make his debut as the Dark Wizard in ‘Fantastic Beasts 3’, which is in production at Warner Bros Studios Leavesden, and currently has a release date of July 15, 2022.

Last week, Mads said he was “waiting for a phone call” about the role, as he insisted news of his casting was just a rumour at the time.

He said: “Oh, that is on the rumour basis as we speak. So I know as much as you do from the newspapers. So I’m waiting for that phone call.”

The ‘Hannibal’ star will be replacing Johnny Depp – who played Grindelwald in the first two movies in the ‘Harry Potter’ spin-off franchise – after he stepped down from his position at the request of Warner Bros., following the loss of his libel case against The Sun newspaper.

He said in a statement at the time: “I wish to let you know that I have been asked to resign by Warner Bros from my role as Grindelwald in ‘Fantastic Beasts’ and I have respected and agreed to that request.”

The 57-year-old actor had taken action against the British publication after they branded him a wife beater who had assaulted then-spouse Amber Heard, but a judge ruled in favour of The Sun earlier this month, when Johnny’s defamation accusation was thrown out.

At the time, Johnny’s legal team vowed to appeal the decision, but on Wednesday (25.11.20), their initial appeal was denied by a judge, who claimed the case doesn’t have “a reasonable prospect of success”.

Here’s why music fans are salty about this year’s Grammy nominations

The nominations for the 63rd annual Grammy Awards are finally here, but it’s left a lot of people scratching their heads in bewilderment. Not only are there a number of names on there that have somehow avoided hitting the radar all year, but there are also a few prominent artists missing from certain categories.

Perhaps the most notable is the absence of The Weeknd from all categories; a remarkable notion when you consider the fact that After Hours is his most iconic release yet, with the song Blinding Lights being one of the most well-played tracks of the year. The Weeknd hasn’t taken this snub lying down either, Tweeting earlier today: “The Grammys remain corrupt. You owe me, my fans and the industry transparency…”

Instead of Blinding Lights we have comparably mediocre singles like Black Pumas’ Colors and DaBaby’s Rockstar ft. Roddy Ricch up for Record of the Year, admittedly among the more deserving Black Parade by Beyonce, Doja Cat’s Say So, Billie Eilish’s Everything I Wanted, Dua Lipa’s Don’t Start Now, Post Malone’s Circles and Megan Thee Stallion’s Savage ft. Beyonce.

Meanwhile, After Hours was passed over in favour of Taylor Swift’s Folklore, Dua Lipa’s Future Nostalgia, Post Malone’s Hollywood’s Bleeding and Haim’s Women In Music Pt. III which would be fine but… Jhené Aiko’s Chilombo? Jacob Collier’s Djesse Vol.3? Black Pumas again? COLDPLAY’S EVERYDAY LIFE?! Are we seriously saying those four records are more deserving of a Grammys nod than After Hours?

At least Harry Styles made an appearance among Best Pop Vocal Album nominations with Fine Line, while his song Watermelon Sugar gets a Best Pop Solo Performance nod. Not quite the main categories we expected of him, but as it turns out Harry’s team submitted Adore You for Record of the Year and Song of the Year rather than Watermelon Sugar, so we can hardly blame the Grammys for that one. Likewise, the reason why you won’t see Cardi B’s WAP anywhere is simply because she hasn’t submitted it for the 2021 awards, choosing instead to submit it next year to coincide with the forthcoming album release.

It was the Best Rap Album list that came completely out of leftfield this year. We’d go as far as to say that every single one of them was a surprise to see on there. Instead of the impressive youth patrol of rappers including Lil Baby with My Turn, Lil Uzi Vert with Eternal Atake and posthumous releases from Juice Wrld (Legends Never Die) and Pop Smoke (Shoot for the Stars, Aim for the Moon), we get a bunch of has-beens with albums that nobody’s been listening to this year: namely D Smoke’s Black Habits, Freddie Gibbs & The Alchemist’s Alfredo, Jay Electronica’s A Written Testimony, Nas’ King’s Disease and Royce Da 5’9″‘s The Allegory.

Pop Smoke and Lil Baby did at least get nominated for Best Rap Performance for their respective singles Dior and The Bigger Picture. Not really enough to restore our faith in the Grammys, but it’s a worthy gesture.

Another name that didn’t pop up quite as often as we thought it would was K-Pop titans BTS, who only have one nomination and that’s for Best Pop Duo/Group Performance with their song Dynamite. It is, however, the first K-Pop nomination we’ve ever seen amongst the Grammys, so that is actually an example of progress. 

On the other hand, we have no idea what happened to the Country section of the Grammy nominations, because Country Music Awards and Academy of Country Music Awards’ Album of the Year winner Luke Combs failed to get even a blink in any category despite the acclaim for his sophomore album What You See Is What You Get

A few disappointments then, but at least the Grammys are one thing we can’t blame on COVID-19 or Trump.
